My project focuses on designing retractable, affordable AFL goalposts for schools and junior football programs, all within a $200 AUD budget. I wanted to create a product that is safe, portable, and easy to store, allowing schools and football programs to hold trainings and games without needing permanent or heavy metal structures. The goalposts are made from lightweight, recyclable PVC with a durable ceramic coating to improve longevity and weather resistance. They feature a telescopic, pin-lock height adjustment system, making them simple to assemble and adaptable for different age groups and skill levels. I’ve focused on user-centred design principles by prioritising safety, ergonomics (the study of people in their working environment), and comfort. Visually, I aimed for a clean, symmetrical, and professional appearance, ensuring the product not only performs well but also looks appealing. By combining innovation, sustainability, and functionality, my retractable AFL goalposts offer a practical and reliable solution that makes football more accessible and enjoyable for schools, coaches, and teachers and students.
