Unit 4 Art Making and Exhibiting
In Nice House, Marcocci combines precision and atmosphere to create a striking vision of modern domestic architecture. The painting is executed with an interplay of tiny, layered brushstrokes and carefully taped edges, producing a surface that balances softness with absolute crispness. The contrasts in technique allow for both painterly texture and clean, geometric clarity—an echo of how lived spaces oscillate between warmth and structure. Marcocci draws inspiration from the works of Hiroshi Nagai, whose idyllic, hyper-stylized scenes of architecture, leisure, and endless blue skies embody a dreamlike quality. Like Nagai, Marcocci employs vibrant blocks of colour and sharp perspective to suggest both nostalgia and utopia. The house and pool sit within a flattened, almost surreal landscape, inviting the viewer to reflect on the aspirational calm of modern life. By distilling form into pure colour and line, Nice House becomes less about a specific location and more about the idea of space, freedom, and the imagined perfection of home.
