Energies
Watercolour paint on paper
Unit 4 Art Making and Exhibiting
Jayla’s watercolour piece explores themes of spirituality and connection. Through abstract forms she has created an emotive piece depicting a glowing figure with God’s light shining all over them and connecting directly to the heart. She uses bright colours around the outside of the composition to draw the viewers’ attention into the piece and immerse the viewer into the focal point of the piece. Through these sharp coloured lines Kiratlioglu intends to represent different sets of energies present within one's life and how they are inevitable to be around, but it is through God’s light and trust in Him that is what creates a barrier against any evil energies that may be trying to take from one's purpose that God has given them hence the stark black boarder around the figure, preventing the colours from getting in. These dark, bold, and bright colours contrast to the soft blended colours within the centre of the piece directly surrounding the central figure. These colours contrast from the outer colours in which are not blended creating a juxtaposition in which is hard to ignore. Taking inspiration from artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miro, Franz Ehrilch, and Sam Atyeo as well as Holy songs that have resonated with her, she takes on an abstract form while still depicting exactly what her audience will be able to understand, creating a sense of appreciation for those who are on a spiritual journey with God, especially once being saved. The central figure represented within the middle ground depicts an individual turning to the light and fleeing from evil (shadow figure behind). Believed that majority of her figure within her art represent her, this composition depicts her spiritual journey and where how she is right now.
