Sensory Space at Melbourne Airport

Unit 3 and 4 Visual Communication Design

SAT Folio and final presentations

Melbourne Airport, is one of Australia’s busiest transport hubs, connecting Victoria to the world since 1970. With thousands of travelers, families, and staff moving through daily, the airport can be a stressful and overstimulating environment. The Australia Pacific Airports Corporation (APAC) seeks to improve the travel experience by developing inclusive, accessible, and sensory-friendly facilities for those with sensory regulation challenges.

Communication Need 1: Melbourne Airport requires the design of a sensory space that provides a calming, multi-sensory environment for travelers with sensory regulation challenges. The space should promote relaxation, accessibility, and wellbeing for users of all developmental ages.

Communication Need 2: The client also requires a series of inclusive visual wellbeing resources—such as communication boards, emotion charts, and grounding posters—to enhance accessibility and encourage emotional regulation within the sensory space.
