Melbourne in a Day

Photo Book

Unit 3 and 4 Media

SAT Folio and Product

A Day in Melbourne was a narrative photographic series of ten images presented as a photo book, capturing the transformation of Melbourne’s CBD from morning to night. I explored themes of urban life, population, tourism, movement, and the passage of time, aiming to encourage audiences to reflect on the city’s unnoticed moments and atmosphere. I used techniques such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, motion blur, natural lighting, and consistent colour grading to visually convey the rhythm of a full day; how the city awakened, built momentum, and finally rested. Through candid photography, I expressed the concept of sonder, revealing the complexity of strangers’ lives. Targeted toward creative young adults (16–25), my work invited viewers to observe Melbourne from a new perspective and with deeper appreciation.
