My documentary Ông Ngoại was created with a number of goals in mind. The primary goal of the project was to capture and preserve my grandfather’s experience fleeing the Vietnam War, exploring the emotional and cultural impact of displacement on his life and identity. The secondary goal was to provide a personal perspective on a broader historical event, connecting family memory with the legacy of migration and resilience. I was inspired to make this documentary after hearing my grandfather’s stories growing up and realising how important it was to record and share them before they were lost. Through this project, I aimed to honour his journey while helping others understand the human side of history.
