“A Library Burns” is a silent 2D animated short film exploring Alzheimer’s impact through the daily experiences of an unnamed male protagonist. Using symbolic, codes, conventions and visuals influenced by silent films and German expressionism, the film conveys the disorientation and memory loss caused by Alzheimer’s and its impacts. The narrative follows the protagonist’s gradual cognitive decline, with distorted imagery and shifting sound to evoke emotional discomfort and sadness. Targeted at animation fans in their 20s-30s, the film emphasizes visual storytelling to foster empathy and reflection on Alzheimer’s, engaging audiences with experimental animation and emotional expression to deepen their connection to the protagonist’s experience.
